On March 7, 2009 Third Law BJJ participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Robert Sadaty, and his son Adam “Mario” Sadaty, Camilo Castro, Andre Arata, Roberto, and some friends (Team Third Law supporters Kate Lewis and Katy Bishop) took off together, but little Adam powered ahead smoking Andre and leaving the elders behind. The Kids Program Head Instructor Roberto Torralbas traveled this past weekend back again to Baltimore to meet with his instructors Master Lloyd Irvin and Julius Park, this time to compete at the Copa Nova Tournament. Roberto Torralbas went 3 for 3 winning all of his matches. Here is how it went:
In the men’s Men’s Cruiserweight Roberto Torralbas defeated his first opponent 15-4 and split 1st and 2nd with Julius’s student Jon “Devastator” Delbruge.
The most important wins would come in the No-Gi Absolute Division in which Roberto Torralbas defeated Parker Conner (Revolution BJJ) 5-0 via sweep and guards pass. Then Roberto Torralbas faced Brandon Raedy ( 2007 Purple Belt World Champion | Yamasaki BJJ) and was able to come up with the win in overtime after scoring and advantage of a close attempt to finish with the heel hook.
Roberto Torralbas did not have any competitors in the Gi and closed the Purple Belt Men’s Cruiserweight and the Absolute with teammate Greg Souders.
Two of our Kids Program’s Assistant Instructors won the Naga World Cup in Boca Raton. Kevin Dalton has been keeping up his promises at the gym and they seem to have paid up. Kevin is one of our most dedicated students. Kevin begun doing our conditioning program and started cleaning out his diet and the results are that he won 4 matches in a row to win the gold!

Beker Escalante: Beker came out of a tough lost in the No-Gi Division in overtime to defeat four of his opponents in the Gi. Beker has been jumping over hurdles and making it to class every time that school and work allows it, he is showing great dedication that will sure bring even greater results in the near future. Congrats to both of them!
Third Law BJJ began the New Year On Thursday Jan 1, 2009 with its first Children Belt Promotion Ceremony. We graduated our first 4 Kids to their first belt. Judging by the precision of each student’s movements, I know these students have taken BJJ class very seriously.

The goal of the Third Law’s Good Citizenship Program is to not only produce great martial artist but also great citizens and people. We want our parents to go over current events with their children and also engender a habit of public service and pursuit of the greater good. As adult students and practitioners we must lead by example as well.
What Third Law BJJ will be participating in a list of activities we have accumulated and keep building upon (runs against cancer and hunger, mentoring, toy donations, etc…). Our goal is to donate and use our team power for all the good causes we can come up with.
On top of that Third Law Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be donating $100 each month for the 2009 year (next twelve months) to a charity of one of child’s choice.
The only caveat is that the program chosen is that the charity be rated four starts by Charity Navigator, an organization that “works to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic market place by evaluating the financial health of over 5,300 of America’s largest charities.” This is just to ensure that the majority of the funds an organization receives are actually going to the causes it promotes.
The idea started when Ingrid Bartuccio and Brook Passmore participated with in the Naples Triathlon, so I guess we can call them the pioneers of the program. Well it wasn’t planned, but they wanted to sport or fancy t-shirts ;). It was a good time, everyone had fun, and it became obvious that its not only good idea but super important that an organization like Third Law BJJ which has an incredible group of good individuals started to become more involved in community activities.
In 2008 we participated in 3 events: The Naples Yearly Triathlon, Race against Huger, and Toy Collections in Christmas. The goal for 2009 is to at least triple this count. Every year we should raise the bar.
Our first Children’s class was Tuesday, August 19, 2008. The program will follow a Tuesday 6 PM, Thursday 6 PM, and Saturday 9:30 AM schedule. As the program grows the schedule will change so make sure you http://www.thirdlawbjjkids.com/info.html from time to time.

The launch of the Third Law BJJ Kids Program is a huge step forward for the entire academy. We have become the first and only school with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu curriculum for kids in Collier and Lee County and maybe in Southwest Florida.

We will also be teaching basic punching and kicking offense and defense. As I mentioned earlier Third Law BJJ will be modeling the success of The Team Lloyd Irvin Kids Program. Take a look at this video:
But more important that competition results, it is our mission to make every single student of Third Law BJJ Kids Program a great citizen. That’s why in our curriculum you will find all types of lectures on life matters that will prepare your child for life.
As we prepare for the launch of our own Kid’s program in 2008, Roberto Torralbas took a trip to Elkridge Maryland, to visit Crazy 88 BJJ and their kids program. Crazy 88 BJJ is run by Julius Park and Danny Ives who is the head instructor of the Kids Program (and also Roberto’s instructors along with Lloyd Irvin). They were kind enough to allow Roberto to teach a bunch of classes for different age groups.

Danny is an amazing kid’s instructor and I was able to seal many tricks from him. Especially how he makes every class feel like you are at an amusement park! Crazy 88 BJJ is following the footsteps of our Lloyd Irvin and The Team Lloyd Irvin Kids program which is THE BEST program in the country for realistic martial art. Third Law BJJ will also follow those footsteps to contribute to what already is the best team in the country, and make sure that in no time we dominate the Florida Region.
All I could think of when I was teaching the students was “I wish I had started this young!” Imagine how good these kids will be in a few years!
